The Department of Public Safety works in partnership with the campus community to protect and enhance a secure learning-centered environment, to provide quality service with an emphasis on integrity and professionalism, and to promote individual responsibility and cooperative commitment.

The primary role of the Department of Public Safety is to provide services to the student body and to campus employees by patrolling the University’s grounds, residence halls and buildings and by registering all vehicles. Additional services include assistance with vehicles, escorts for students, and security-related educational programs.

Emergency Communication

Emergency alerts and timely warning notifications are delivered through the Olivet Mass Emergency Notification System (OMENS). The system sends email to everyone with a valid Olivet email address and text messages to a student or employee’s primary cell phone number.

Students and employees:  No action is needed to join. Please ensure that your cell phone number and other personal contact information is up-to-date by reviewing your Self-Service User Profile.

Parents and visitors:  To opt-in to receive ONU emergency alerts via text message, text join onualerts to 31002.

The Department of Public Safety is required by the U.S. Department of Education, specifically by the Jeanne Clery Act, to maintain incident reports and daily logs for seven years. The Clery Act’s Annual Report and Public Crime Log are available for review on this website or in the Office of Public Safety. Any incident considered to be a serious threat to the campus community will be immediately reported. Every student, faculty member, staff member and visitor needs to be aware that safety is everyone’s responsibility. Any crime, violation, suspicious person(s) or activity needs to be reported immediately.
