Graduate Assistant

Department: Communications
Time Status: Part Time
Reports To: Chair, Department of Communications

General Summary:
The Graduate Assistant will work alongside the Communications faculty to facilitate excellence in this professional field of study.  Graduate Assistantships exist for a two-fold reason:  for the GA to gain a master's degree on tuition scholarship and to give practical work experience for one who may desire to be a full-time faculty member at a college or University.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Providing assistance to the Multimedia Studies program
  • Shooting and editing departmental training and promotional videos
  • Logging and maintaining video production gear
  • Leading student workshops in areas of advanced video production and nonlinear editing
  • Possible teaching or assistant teaching
  • Provide assistance to students on video projects
  • General assistance / support to the Communication Department on miscellaneous special projects

Knowledge Skills and Abilities Required:

  • A lifestyle in agreement with the ONU Statement of Mission, Faith, and Lifestyle Covenant 
  • Extensive knowledge of video production and nonlinear editing
  • Team-player attitude; able to take direction and work well with others
  • Ability to work independently and meet project deadlines
  • An earned bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution; degree in Communication is preferred
  • Ability to be accepted in to the Olivet Nazarene University School of Graduate and Continuing Studies and enroll in a master’s program

Directs Work Of: Students     

10-month appointment, August-May.  Compensation is a $1,000.00/month stipend, plus full tuition scholarship towards a master's degree with ONU.

Musical ensembles students can join, including 4 choirs and 17 instrumental ensembles
