20,000 on campus for Sunday’s Training Camp with Chicago Bears

Posted: Aug 13, 2013

"We can't underestimate the value of fan contact. What a great fan experience we're able to offer at ONU!" (Phil Emery, Bears' general manager)

Olivet welcomed a record 20,000 Chicago Bears’ fans to campus and Training Camp on Sunday, August 11, 2013. Adults and children, families and singles, celebrities and the guy next door gathered to cheer for their favorite team.

“Having this opportunity to work with an outstanding professional sports organization never loses its excitement,” said Gary Griffin, Olivet’s director of alumni and university relations. “This year is no exception.”

During a press conference on August 12, Bears’ General Manager Phil Emery complimented Olivet on the quality fan experience the organization is able to provide here. “National media continues to say that our Training Camp is second to none in the NFL,” he said.

The final fan day for 2013 Training Camp was Tuesday, August 13. The Bears will be returning to Olivet for at least nine more Training Camps, based on the team’s recent agreement with the University.

The School that would later be known as "Olivet Nazarene University" was founded with 36 students in a one-room schoolhouse near Georgetown, Ill.
