Olivet invites high school seniors to attend the Summer Leadership Institute 2013 — consisting of both on-campus and online components — which begins Thursday, July 11.

This is an opportunity for high school student leaders to receive advanced leadership training and teambuilding experience. The Institute is open to a limited number of qualified students.

Those who successfully complete both the on-campus and online components of the Institute will earn three hours of college credit.

The on-campus component begins at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 11, and ends at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 13. In addition to interactive time in classes, students will also take part in special evening activities. Overnight dormitory accommodations for Thursday and Friday nights plus meals and adult supervision are also provided.

The online component — July 13 through August 12 — requires approximately 15 hours of homework for the students, as well as access to a computer and a dependable Internet connection.

“For students near the end of their high school career, this is an opportunity for them to step up and commit to becoming the kind of leaders that their families, communities and our world need,” said Dr. Jay Martinson, chair of Olivet’s Department of Communication and Institute presenter.

Students who will be high school seniors in the fall of 2013 are eligible to apply for acceptance to the Institute. To be considered, a student must submit:
• a completed application
• a 400-word essay describing a situation in which you exemplified the qualities of a leader
• a letter of recommendation from a school administrator, teacher or coach that must address the student’s leadership potential and likelihood of success in the Institute

The first 25 students who are accepted will be awarded an Institute scholarship (valued at $1,185). The remaining cost to each of these students is $149 for room and board during the on-campus component.

Deadline for applications is June 15, 2013.
