Biological Sciences

  • Every day, science surprises us with new discoveries — and new people making those discoveries!

  • If you enjoy thinking beyond what other people have thought, asking questions, designing and doing research projects, collecting and interpreting data, then consider a major within biological sciences.

Olivet wants you to succeed. You will be held to the highest standards as we educate, train and mentor you. As an Olivet graduate, you will be exceedingly prepared for graduate school, medical school, dental school or whatever your next steps are in reaching your career goal.

You will benefit from hands-on learning within recently renovated labs and with modern scientific instrumentation, including: spectrophotometers, centrifuges, video-microscopy unit, scanning electron microscope, analytical balances and electrophoresis systems. Olivet students also study within the Greer Botanical Greenhouse, and they learn anatomy using cadavers – a rarity among undergraduate programs.

Learning isn’t bound by the classroom walls. Recent Olivet excursions include:

    • Rainforest field study trip, Costa Rica
    • Tropical field studies tour, Ecuador
    • Fish research and scuba diving, Haigh Quarry, Kankakee, Ill.
    • Arctic biology study trip, Alaska
    • Habitat study, Indiana Dunes
    • Observe sandhill cranes at Jasper Pulaski Wildlife Refuge, Medaryville, Ind.
    • Field study at Mskoda Sands Black Oak Savanna, Kankakee, Ill.
    • Vertebrate natural history and anatomy field project, Big Rock, Ill.

    Success is waiting for you.

We provide the foundations of science. We guide you in research. We give you experience in oral and written presentations.
