  • Today’s business leaders are responsible for more than just the bottom line. Shake up the corporate world and serve as an ambassador for Christ as you impact people, the planet and profit with a degree in business. 

  • Knowledge plus practical application equals a quality education in business at Olivet. Understand the different areas of business. Learn the skills you need to be a success. Master a variety of business computer applications. Grow in your ability and desire to integrate your Christian faith into your business.

    Take what you learn in the classroom — and through practical business experiences — into the world’s many business arenas: for-profit, not-for-profit, government service, law school, corporations, large companies, small companies or your own business.

    Learn to:

    • apply biblical principles and standards to business dilemmas
    • think critically
    • know your chosen profession before you begin job hunting
    • act professionally 
    At Olivet, you can:
    • Combine marketing, finance, and other aspects of business while building up your portfolio as you thoroughly analyze a Fortune 500 company in your business strategy course. 
    • Develop your personal strategic plan. Analyze your stakeholders, strengths, core values, life lessons, and ambitions. 
    • Work with a team on a small business entrepreneurship project. Create a business plan, make a group presentation and compete with the other teams for monetary awards. 
    • Earn valuable experience in highly sought after internships. Olivet students have done internships at many companies, including: Smithsonian Institution, Edward Jones, Merrill Lynch, U.S. Department of Defense, Hallmark, Provena St. Mary’s and Riverside medical centers, Southwest Airlines and Walt Disney.
    • Travel on corporate field trips, such as the recent trips to the Chicago Board of Trade, Federal Reserve, John Deere corporate headquarters, Caterpillar, McGraw-Hill Publishers, U.S. Cellular Field and CIGNA
    • Enjoy one-on-one mentoring relationships with faculty members to help you stay on track with your education, job search and plans for the future.
    • Test for and receive Microsoft professional certifications.
    • Complete the CFP Board-registered program in financial planning

    Additional Opportunities

    Join Olivet’s nationally recognized Enactus (formerly known as SIFE) team. Enactus is a global, nonprofit organization active in 40 countries around the world and more than 800 universities in the United States. In recent years, Olivet’s Enactus members have: 

    • Raised money to build wells in Haiti and then traveled to Haiti to help with the project.
    • Created and used the Market Madness game to teach principles of stock market trading on campus.
    • Educated their community about challenges children living in subsistence economies face.
    • Gathered Christmas gifts for distribution through Operation Christmas Child
    • Trained inmates at Jerome Combs Detention Center in computer skills.
    • Helped ONU students prepare for the annual Career Fair using “What Not to Wear.”
    • Designed and helped implement marketing plans for local businesses.
    • Presented financial seminars to students in area schools.
    • Conducted an energy audit and provided an environmental sustainability plan for seven area McDonald’s locations.
    • Instituted an award to honor a local business for its outstanding record of ethical business practices. Worked with Bradley-Bourbonnais Regional Chamber of Commerce to implement it.
    • Served as election judges.

    Sigma Beta Delta is the national student honorary society for the top 20 percent of business students. 

    Olivet’s Department of Business is certified as a member of the SAP University Alliance.

    The Donald H. Weber Entrepreneur and Leadership Center on the campus of Olivet makes the expertise of national, regional and community leaders available to all students. Recent guests and events include: 

    • Mel Taylor, nationally known expert in digital media
    • Women’s Success Seminar featuring six local women who are business leaders
    • Financial seminar on how to get ready for life and work after graduation, presented by local financial leaders
    • Business etiquette dinner
    • Women in the Workforce, in cooperation with community organizations 

    Economic Research Institute takes the pulse of local economic indicators. Help with the surveying, analyzing and publishing of data gathered from key local decision makers.

    Study abroad programs, focused specifically on international business, provide you with a new global perspective. 

    • Latin American studies program with a semester in Costa Rica
    • International Business Institute with six weeks in Europe, two weeks in China and two weeks in India, traveling, visiting corporations and seeing tourist sites
    • American studies program with a semester in Washington, D.C.
    • China studies program with a semester at Southwest University in Chongqing, China

    Leadership Development Institute provides you with opportunities to visit local businesses and enjoy group dinners with their leaders.
