For your learning, we’ve prepared a diverse set of specialty programs with the central mission of enhancing human health and well-being. Study dietetics, fashion merchandising, housing and environmental design, education, child development, family and community services, and/or hospitality.
With the emphasis on Christ-like professionalism, we provide the content, practice and skills you need to succeed in your chosen career. You will enjoy lasting bonds among students and with faculty that lead to lifelong relationships.

Putting knowledge to work
A lot happens outside the classroom in all of our FACS programs. Field trips. Service projects. Team activities.
Past service projects include:
- Redecorating Salvation Army Thrift Store
- Recycling project at ONU and in the community
- Ronald McDonald Family Fall Fest
- Half Pint Health Fair
- Hoops for Hunger, benefiting Center of Hope, Kankakee
- Empowerment for a Brighter Future, supporting adult education through child care
Compete for awards in the Ugly Kitchen Contest. Those entering the competition receive valuable experience, and winners receive cash prizes.
Use your skills, talents and learning in completing field experiences and practicums in area hospitals, preschools, public and private elementary and secondary schools, and other settings.
Additional opportunities
Complete an internship during your senior year. Our students have worked for a variety of local and national companies, including: Ethan Allen, Pottery Barn, Old Navy, Dillard’s, Kitchen Gallery of Bourbonnais, Head Start, March of Dimes, Nordstrom. Internships are introductory-level positions, often paid and have resulted in full-time jobs.
Earn professional development points by attending local, state and national meetings for your area of study. Network with local and national leaders in your field at conferences of your choice.
Become a member of Kappa Omicron Nu, Kappa Delta Rho Chapter, the national honor society for Family and Consumer Sciences majors; Student Unit of Family and Consumer Sciences (SUFACS); or
Student Dietetics Club.
