  • Available as a minor
Through speaking, listening, reading and writing, Olivet’s French minor will enrich preparation for working abroad and appreciating others and their cultures.

  • If you hope to work in government or business with French-speaking societies, or you simply wish to become proficient in more than one language, consider adding a French minor to your studies.

The French minor is intentionally designed with few hours to allow students to add this minor easily. You may be able to waive four to eight hours of language depending on the years of high school French you have completed.

At Olivet, you will learn from professors who will not only challenge you academically, but who also care about your personal and professional success. Our department is small enough for faculty to know our students on a first name basis. They help to broaden the student experience through a variety of cultural and literary events, in the community, in Chicago, and abroad.

    Putting knowledge to work

Students may travel to French Canada on a 10-day study trip to earn conversation credit. While practicing their conversation skills, students will tour the area to gain a first-hand appreciation for the culture.

French is part of the Department of English and Modern Languages within the College of Arts and Sciences.
