International Business

  • Available as major (B.S. degree)
Are you a global thinker who enjoys learning about different people, languages and customs? Do you enjoy traveling? Then consider a career in international business.

  • World economic events continue to open up new international business opportunities. Become a leader in bringing different countries and cultures together to organize, source, manufacture, market and conduct business activities. Help provide easy access to products and services around the world.

A degree in international business prepares you for a career with companies and organizations that operate within a global context. Jobs are available around the world — either with companies based in the U.S. that have international operations or with foreign companies.

Consider the various ways you can use your degree in the wide spectrum of possibilities, including:

    • Imports and exports (goods and services)
    • Tourism (hotels, airlines, travel agencies)
    • Transportation (shipping companies)
    • Licensing and franchising (use of assets, business operations)
    • Turnkey operations (construction of facilities)
    • Management contracts (supplying management personnel)
    • Direct investment (investing in a foreign company with either a controlling interest or as part of a joint or mixed venture)
    • Portfolio investment (non-controlling interest, receiving stock or making loans)

Also consider the risks and challenges you may face in this career path. Relating appropriately cross-culturally; navigating various governments and political structures; understanding differences in currencies and business practices; communicating clearly in native languages; dealing with climate differences are just a few of them.
