Multimedia Communication

  • Available as major (B.S. degree) and minor
    Entertain or instruct others through media. Find stories that aren’t being told and tell them through pictures, words, images. Communicate to millions through one production. Your degree in multimedia communication will help you do all this and more.

    At Olivet, you can:

    • Apply your learning by working at Shine.FM, one of the top contemporary Christian radio stations in the country
    • Learn the fundamentals of television production – cameras, audio, lighting, studio work, field work and editing.
    • Produce short films, music videos, news programs and other creative projects. 
    • Learn how to write a script and organize a production, shoot it, and edit the final version.
    • Write stories with more than just text. Integrate multimedia - audio clips, videos, photo galleries, interactive infographics - for mobile and online platforms.
    • Work for Access ONU, our campus news magazine: producing, reporting, anchoring or as a behind-the-scenes director, technical director, editor or production assistant.
    • Use cameras from our fleet of high-end HD video cameras, beginning your freshman year and work in editing labs equipped with the industry-leading software packages, such as Adobe Premiere and Final Cut.
    • Work behind the scenes by running camera, lights and sound, or calling shots as a technical director for weekly chapels and numerous other live events and concert productions hosted in Centennial Chapel at Olivet.
    • Take photography courses to enhance your training. Work in the on-campus still photo studio.

    Additional Opportunities

    • Spend a semester in Los Angeles at the L.A. Film Studies Center (LAFSC), earning credit toward your Olivet degree. Take film courses and intern on a movie set, television show or at an animation center. 
    • Spend a semester in New York City earning credit toward your Olivet degree. Learn from top-notch Christian journalism faculty and engage with other writers with NYC Semester at The King's College.
    • Develop your professional news skills and think through the implications of being a Christian working in the news media.
    • Work on the staff of the award-winning GlimmerGlass campus newspaper. 
    • Spend a semester in Nashville, Tenn. at the Contemporary Music Center, earning credit toward your Olivet degree. Work in real-world settings with high-end gear via the technical track providing production support for weekly live shows, and plan a tour through the business track.
    • Become a member of Lambda Pi Eta, the National Communication Association’s official honor society.
