    Mission Statement

     
    The Department of Music exists to cultivate the musical skills of student scholars as an act of personal commitment to Christ, and to encourage a life of service to others. The educational thrust of the Department of Music is threefold: it seeks to complement a broad liberal arts education, to provide the intensive professional training that aspiring musicians need, and to meet the musical needs of the University, community, and Olivet’s educational region.

    • Ruffatti pipe organ housed in 3,059-seat Centennial Chapel
    • 504-seat Kresge Auditorium
    • Clavinova piano lab for beginning piano students
    • 16-station Mac MIDI computer lab for composing, arranging and transcribing music
    • 200-member marching band
    • Traditional, jazz, gospel, and show choir opportunities
    • Opera in the fall/ Musical in the spring
    • Private lessons on all instruments, including harp
    • Two orchestras comprised of all undergraduate students
    • Ensembles open to majors and non-majors alike
     
    Olivet’s Department of Music is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) since 1982.
