For outstanding support of military member employees and their families, Dr. Amber Residori of Olivet Nazarene University recently received the Patriot Award from Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR). This award recognizes the efforts of individual supervisors to support citizen warriors through a wide range of measures, including flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployment, caring for families, and granting leaves of absence if needed. Dr. Residori serves as dean of ONU’s College of Professional Studies.

MAJ Landon Miller, ONU’s director of military science and veterans affairs, nominated Dr. Residori for this honor. “Dr. Residori has been a tremendous support to me while pursuing my career at ONU and in the U.S. Army Reserves,” MAJ Miller said. “As the Dean of the College of Professional Studies, she extends that support to the military students on campus, and goes above and beyond to support them. Exemplifying the spirit of this award, she is a true patriot and makes military members on campus feel like they belong at ONU.” Amber Residori holding award

“I feel blessed to receive this award,” Dr. Residori said. “It is a privilege to work beside service men and women, and support them as they continue to serve our nation. I hope our veterans, active duty and military reserve employees always feel ONU’s commitment and strong appreciation for their service to our nation.”

For more than 20 years, the United States has relied heavily on Guard and Reserve Service members. Employer support enhances retention rates in the Armed Forces and, in the end, strengthens national security. To recognize employers who support their Guard and Reserve employees, ESGR grants a series of Department of Defense awards, including the Patriot Award.

ESGR is a Department of Defense program that seeks to promote a culture in which all American employers support and value the military service of their employees. Citizen warriors who serve in the National Guard and Reserve rely on the continued promise of meaningful civilian employment for themselves and their families. Recognizing supportive employers is vital to ESGR’s mission. These Department of Defense awards honor the sacrifices made by so many employers year after year.

“Olivet is honored that the ESGR has recognized Dr. Residori with this award,” said Mark Reddy, vice president of enrollment management for ONU. “The work she has done to support our military employees and the programs they impact is an admirable representation of the University and a deserving portrayal of her dedication to excellence in every area that she influences.”
