CHICAGO — Olivet Nazarene University’s Wendy Reid has been named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Sports Information Director of the Year for 2016–2017, as announced Aug. 24, 2017.
Reid, who is beginning her sixth season overseeing the communications of the Olivet Tigers’ 21 athletic teams, was selected by a vote of her peers.
”Wendy has transformed the sports information office at Olivet Nazarene into one of the best in the country,” said Gary Newsome, Olivet Nazarene’s director of athletics. “She has also done an excellent job at bringing ONU into today’s social media world. Our social media outlets now draw hundreds of hits per day. ONU is proud to call Wendy our own.”
Reid played a key role in getting numerous stories written and photos published after ONU’s swim teams captured both the 2017 NAIA men’s & women’s national championships. The Tigers also boasted the NAIA Coach and Swimmer of the Year.
Besides her advances with social media, Reid also created a new Tiger athletics YouTube channel in 2017, as well as implemented 360-degree evaluations for the sports information department. She also handles all student workers for game-day needs and facilitates the student-athlete advisory committee.
Reid is also heavily involved at the conference level. She helped host the inaugural CCAC Indoor Track & Field Championships this past February, created the logo design for the event, coordinated the league mascot challenge, oversees the CCAC Twitter account and serves on the conference’s sports information executive committee.
“Wendy’s desire to help the athletic department feel like one big family is unmatched,” pointed out ONU men’s soccer Head Coach David Blahnik. “She is also always trying to think of new ways to better what our athletic program does.”
Reid never tires when it comes to volunteering, either. She is a member of the College Church of the Nazarene, teaches elementary Sunday school, volunteers as a coach in the Bradley-Bourbonnais Youth Softball Association and regularly volunteers at the schools of her children.
