Completing a biology degree at Olivet Nazarene University launched Kody Carr ’09 into an exciting career as a veterinarian. Recently, he was named as the Best Veterinarian in Reno, Nevada, by city residents.
A member of the Damonte Ranch Animal Hospital team in Reno since 2015, Dr. Carr is an associate veterinarian. In his career, he enjoys celebrating the good times with his patients (and their families) and being there for support during more difficult times.
Dr. Carr received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M.) degree from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in 2015. “Olivet prepared me well for the incredibly high demands of veterinary school,” he says. “Olivet’s biology and chemistry professors maintain a rigorous curriculum that demands dedication to your studies, but the reward is a sound understanding of the material. The special thing about Olivet’s program, though, is the faculty’s willingness to come alongside and work with you as an individual.”
One of Dr. Carr’s favorite Olivet memories and learning opportunities was working with Dr. Aggie Veld as a teaching assistant in anatomy and physiology. “Dr. Veld’s passion for science and teaching was very impactful and formative at that time in my life,” he says. “Since starting my career as a veterinarian, I have enjoyed mentoring a number of high school and college students along their academic path.”
Dr. Carr is married to Katie (Nichols) ’08, and they are the parents of one daughter, Adelina.
