The spirit of generosity on Olivet’s campus is overflowing this Thanksgiving season. Efforts to help others both at home and abroad have begun to catch like wildfire.
This semester, Sodexo and Missions in Action (MIA) partnered together to raise money for disaster relief through Nazarene Compassionate Ministries (NCM). For every Sodexo survey that was completed by a member of the Olivet community, Sodexo donated $1 to the cause. Student Life ministry leaders and MIA staff helped facilitate the survey, and encouraged students, faculty and staff to complete it during lunch and dinner hours. By the end of the fundraiser, $1081 was raised, which went directly to hurricane disaster relief through NCM.
In the same spirit, Sodexo has since partnered with Olivet’s Spiritual Life for a canned food drive to benefit our local community, including Center of Hope and the food pantry at Kankakee First Church of the Nazarene. Again, for each item donated, Sodexo is donating $1.
This fundraiser soon caught the attention of ONU Athletics, which is offering a prize to the team that collectively brings in the most canned goods. And for fans, free hot chocolate is being offered at a home football game for anyone who donates a can.
It’s an inspiring season on Olivet’s campus. As the generosity continues to spread, this story will continue…
