Highlights of the fall 2017 season for Olivet Tiger athletics
Teams — Men
Baseball, fall schedule
In an opening day win against Lincoln Christian University (Illinois), the Tiger baseball team scored 21 runs for the win.
Football
Ending with a winning season for the first time since 2005, Tiger football celebrated six victories — including their Homecoming game.
Men’s cross country
The Tigers earned an automatic bid to the NAIA National Championships with a runner-up finish in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Men’s indoor track and field
Bryce Vollrath, a sophomore engineering major, captured the shot put title at the Second Annual Holiday Invite at Olivet in December. He also picked up an automatic qualification to the 2018 NAIA Nationals.
Men’s soccer
For the fifth time in the last six seasons, the Tigers made it to NAIA National Tournament.
Men’s swimming and diving
The 2017-2018 team has already accumulated four team victories plus several individual and relay first place winners. Defending their NAIA national title, they are well on their way to another outstanding season.
Teams — Women
Tigerball women’s basketball
After upsetting then No. 7 University of St. Francis (Illinois), the Tigers jumped up seven spots in the NAIA Top-25 Coaches Poll to No. 13.
Women’s cross country
Two Tigers qualified for NAIA Nationals.
Women’s indoor track and field
Three Tigers have already qualified for 2018 Nationals: Carlie Vannatta in weight throw and shot put; Kylie Davis in shot put; and Anne Brown in high jump. Carlie is currently ranked number one in the NAIA weight throw event.
Women’s soccer
For the first time since 2014, and their sixth in program history, the Tigers qualified for the NAIA National Tournament after capturing the CCAC Regular Season title.
Women’s swimming and diving
Capturing the title at the inaugural Toby Tiger Invite at Olivet, the women’s team has set the bar high for the upcoming NAIA National Championship competition.
Individual milestones
- Ben Hill, baseball, catcher, named to the 2018 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Preseason All-America Team. He is a senior majoring in business administration.
- Jordan Enders, women’s swimming and diving, named CollegeSwimming.com Swimmer of the Week. She is a freshman and is still exploring possibilities for her major.
- Kayleigh Kastelein, volleyball, Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Freshman of the Year. She is a psychology major.
Jess Learned, Tigerball women’s basketball, 1,000 career points. She is a junior majoring in Spanish education.
- Kyle Love, football, Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) All-Academic Team honor for third consecutive season. He is a senior majoring in sport management.
- Mackenzie Mehaffey, women’s golf, new single round school record with a three-under 69 at the Swan Lake Intercollegiate in October. She is a junior majoring in multimedia communications.
- Amanda Moran, women’s swimming and diving, new Perry Center pool record in the 200-yard backstroke. She is a senior marketing major.
- Tumi Moshobane, men’s soccer, named to the 2017 NAIA Men’s Soccer All-America Team (honorable mention list). He is a junior majoring in international business.
- Hannah Ondrey, women’s soccer, named to the 2017 NAIA Women’s Soccer All-America Team (honorable mention list). She is a senior majoring in exercise science.
- Jeslyn Roat, volleyball, named to NAIA and American Volleyball Coaches Association 2017 Volleyball All-America Teams (honorable mention lists), NAIA 2017 Mideast Region First Team, and CCAC 2017 First Team. She is a senior majoring in social work.
- Marcus Wollak, men’s soccer, first in program history to be named to College Sports Information Directors of America (Co-SIDA) Academic All-America® First Team College Division. He is a junior majoring in biology.
Academics
- Football: 14 selected to MSFA All-Academic Team
- Football: Caleb Coe named to CoSIDA Academic All-District® Football Team for combined performance in the classroom and on the field
- Men’s cross country: Seven Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes
- Men’s soccer: Marcus Wollak selected to CoSIDA Academic All-District Team; five Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes
- Women’s cross country: Four Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes
- Women’s soccer: Three Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes
- Volleyball: Jeslyn Roat named to CoSIDA Academic All-District® Volleyball Team; five Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes
