On May 1, 2019, Olivet Nazarene University will launch a 24-hour philanthropic event, the Day of Giving. The University is inviting alumni, faculty, staff, community members, and even students to contribute to meeting the financial needs of current and future generations of Olivet students.
The purpose of the Day of Giving is to advance the student experience at Olivet through increased scholarship opportunities, enhanced academic resources and improved athletic programs.
Hosted by Olivet’s Office of Development, the goal the Day of Giving is to secure 500 donors within 24 hours. All gifts will benefit the University’s annual giving program, The Olivet Fund.
For over 78 years, Olivet has been an upstanding institution in Kankakee County. Every year, the University offers free events such as the Sounds of the Season Christmas concert and the Ovid Young Organ Recital Series; hosts sports camps to introduce young athletes to a university environment as they improve skills; performs stellar renditions of award-winning plays and musicals; and accommodates community events such as high school graduations, band concerts, and art festivals. Additionally, for the last 17 years, Olivet has hosted the Chicago Bears for their summer training camp, bolstering the growth of the local economy.
A university education is a hefty investment and 99 percent of Olivet students receive financial support in the form of scholarships, grants and loans. Scholarships are made possible through the generous gifts of donors. Development initiatives like the Day of Giving, ensure that generations of Olivet students will receive necessary financial assistance to pursue a robust education that encourages community involvement.
Olivet prepares students for lives of service, and countless alumni work in the community as educators, nurses, social workers, engineers and business owners, among other professional roles.
While pursuing a nursing degree, senior Zach Bachman has completed clinical rotations and worked as a student nursing assistant at Riverside Hospital. He says of Olivet, “I considered other options in my college search, but their scholarship offers couldn’t compare to Olivet.”
Zach is one example of thousands of Olivet students who are able to prepare for lives of professional excellence in the local community and around the world through the generosity of donors.
Consider taking a moment to make a moment and support students at Olivet by giving on May 1.
