In the autumn 2019 issue of Olivet The Magazine, University President Dr. John C. Bowling challenges the Olivet community to “dig a deep well … that will nourish and refresh generations to come.”
Expanding on Dr. Bowling’s commission to the University, five Olivetians (alumni, faculty and parents) contribute insights on the value that they perceive Olivet provides in creating a “well” of learning, character development, leadership and service, deep relationships and vibrant spirituality.
Raving fan and director of athletics, Gary Newsome ’74 takes a look back on his various roles at the University – student, coach, parent and director – to reflect on how each opportunity uniquely shaped his Olivet experience.
In contrast, eight representatives of the Class of 2023 look forward to new opportunities on campus as they make Olivet their new home away from home.
In “World View,” Olivet students and faculty who traveled throughout summer 2019, share what they learned about themselves and their roles in building the Kingdom as they were immersed in different cultures.
As part of the new series “With Honors,” senior biology major Erin Olson considers the outstanding influences that her Olivet research opportunities – the capstone project of the University Honors Program and Pence-Boyce Scholarship award – have had on her personal and professional goals.
Readers are encouraged to attend University events, such as Homecoming & Family Weekend and the cherished musical traditions of Sounds of the Season and the Messiah.
Additionally, the 65-page issue highlights news stories covering the academic and athletic accomplishments of students, faculty and alumni.
