Dear students,

I am writing to provide some important updated information regarding Olivet’s 2020 Commencement activities.  In response to a survey of those who will be graduating, I am pleased to announce the following adjustments, which will allow us to celebrate the accomplishments of the Class of 2020 digitally in May and in person in August.

(1) On Saturday, May 9, there will be a video address sent via email to all graduates during which I will speak to the graduates and confer degrees. Digital diplomas will be emailed and physical diplomas will be mailed directly to graduates the following week.

(2) On Saturday, August 15, the University will host two Commencement Ceremonies in Centennial Chapel – one for traditional undergraduate students and one for SGCS students.  Precise times and more details will be announced at a later date. Pending government permission, all graduates and their families will be invited and encouraged to return to campus for this special moment! Students will be recognized individually and various awards and special recognitions will be given.

(3) On Saturday, November 7, there will be a special President’s Reception and class reunion for all members of the Class of 2020 during Homecoming & Family Weekend.

Please note that the University will continue to abide by the regulations of the federal government and State of Illinois, therefore, it is possible that further adjustments may have to be made to these events.

Thank you for your patience as the University has worked through the various options and obstacles regarding graduation.

Respectfully,

Dr. John C. Bowling
University President
