As a unique exhibition space, the Victorian House Art Gallery at Olivet Nazarene University will provide opportunity for three guest artists to display their pieces for the community’s enjoyment. The spring 2021 exhibitions will feature works from Meg Pierce, Tracie Cheng, and Laura Mosquera.
The following is a brief description of the featured artists and their work.
Meg Maher Pierce | Sanctuary | Jan. 21 – April 22
After graduating from the College of New Rochelle, Meg Pierce went on to gain a master’s in art and art education from Columbia University, NY, NY and a MFA in Painting from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn. She taught art within Herricks Schools, on Long Island from 1969-2001 and found teaching to be an extraordinary source of energy and pride. Following the loss of her beloved husband in 2008, she devoted herself completely to her practice.
Her latest works displays composition of hand stitching, mixed media, collage, and painting. The work features vintage fiber, silk flowers, leaves and found objects.
An online artist interview will be posted Jan. 21
Tracie Cheng | In the Scale of Everything | Feb. 1 – March 15
Tracie Cheng began her visual arts journey after she graduated with a degree in architecture. She finds that art and design are a way to speak louder than words and enhance any given space or experience. In her work, she approaches the pieces with great intention – wanting to give voice to a story, while other pieces are used to study composition, color and fluidity.
Cheng’s works use a combination of layers that work together to form a textured story that takes on an unexpected, natural evolution and movement. Using a play on space and depth, Cheng seeks to draw people in with questions of wanting to know more and a calm understanding, despite what may never be known.
An online artist interview will be posted on Feb. 20.
Laura Mosquera | Hold Tight and Let Go | March 29 – April 22
Laura Mosquera received her MFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1999. Mosquera has had solo exhibitions at the Domus Atrium in Salamanca, Spain, the Feign Contemporary Gallery in New York, and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago. She has permanent installations of works at the Archer heights Branch Library and eight billboards exhibited at the Red Line Subway station in Chicago.
Along with her many displays, Mosquera was a professor and chair of Painting at the Savannah College of Art and Design for six years. She has also completed residencies at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts.
