This fall Chloe Hanegraaf, senior nursing student at Olivet Nazarene University, received the “Student Nurse of the Year” award from the American Nurses Association (ANA) Illinois.
ANA Illinois awards one student nurse each year with this special recognition. The nominee must “exemplify compassion, exceptional promise in clinical expertise, and academic achievement.”
Chloe is the first Olivet student to receive this honor, and is grateful to be a part of the Nursing program. She stated, “I am very excited to extend my goals in nursing. There is no limit to how far you can go in this field. I am eager to see how God continues to write my story as a nurse.”
With the help and guidance from her Olivet professors, Chloe has been able to succeed in the field.
“My professors specifically have pointed me to Scripture and that God has called me to nursing. I am a firm believer that God has put the love of nursing in my heart and that is why I have made it this far.”
Through the continuous opportunities to learn and grow with her patients, Chloe has a deep love and understanding for nursing. After completing her degree this winter, she is eager to begin working within the critical care unit. Through this environment, she is hoping to walk away with a firm foundation that will benefit the rest of her career.
“As a new grad, I have a desire to be in an environment that will allow me to actively improve my critical thinking and assessment skills.”
