Olivet Nazarene University presents the fall 2022 season of live theatre events, including an original student-written play, a hilarious Shakespearian comedy, the stage production of a C.S. Lewis favorite and a class holiday tale.
Tickets for each show can be reserved at Olivet.edu/tickers. All performances will be held in the Theatre at Sims Education Center (160 W. River St., Bourbonnais, IL).
ONU Theatre New Works Program Presents: The Time We Have
Play by Sisi Clark | Directed by Prof. Ashley Sarver & Abriella Carvette
Performance dates: Sept. 9 at 7:00 p.m.; Sept. 10 at 2:00 p.m.; Sept. 11 at 2:00 p.m.
Synopsis: Winner of the 2nd Annual New Works Festival for ONU Theatre, this new play looks at the tragedy of 9/11. A group of subway passengers become acquainted on their commute to work each day. When the tragedy of 9/11 hits, we see how they are all affected. The story honors first responders and reminds us of the peace the Lord gives in the midst of chaos and uncertainty.
ONU Theatre Presents: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe
Dramatized by Joseph Robinette from the story by C.S. Lewis | Directed by Prof. Sarver
Performance dates: Oct. 27 at 7:00 p.m.; Oct. 28 at 7:00 p.m.; Oct. 29 at 2:00 p.m.; Nov. 4 at 7:00 p.m.; Nov. 5 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
Synopsis: This dramatization of C.S. Lewis’ classic work faithfully recreates the magic and mystery of Aslan, the great lion, his struggle with the White Witch, and the adventures of four children who inadvertently wander from an old wardrobe into the exciting, never-to-be-forgotten Narnia. This story of love, faith, courage and giving, with its triumph of good over evil, is a true celebration of life.
ONU Theatre Presents: Comedy of Errors
Play by William Shakespeare | Student-Directed by Natalie Richardson
Performance dates: Nov. 17 at 7:00 p.m.; Nov. 18 at 7:00 p.m.; Nov. 19 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
Synopsis: After both being separated from their twins in a shipwreck, Antipholus and his slave Dromio go to Ephesus to find them. The other set of twins lives in Ephesus, and the new arrivals cause a series of incidents of mistaken identity. At the end, the twins find each other and their parents and resolve all of the problems caused earlier.
ONU Theatre Presents: A Christmas Carol
Based on book by Charles Dickens adapted by Doris Baizley | Directed by Abriella Caravette
Performance dates: Dec. 1 at 7:00 p.m.; Dec. 2 at 7:00 p.m.; Dec. 3 at 2:00 p.m.
Synopsis: A Christmas Carol is a play about a mean-spirited and selfish old man, Ebenezer Scrooge, who hates Christmas. One cold Christmas Eve, Scrooge is unkind to the people who work for him, then refuses to give to charity, and then is rude to his nephew when he invites him to spend Christmas with him.
