Biology Education Concentration

Looking to make a difference?  Shape our future by inspiring the next generation of wildlife managers, ecologists, doctors, and citizen scientists.  Biology education majors explore the breadth that biology has to offer while being mentored by education faculty in how best to be an effective teacher.  Starting with a foundation in the sciences and a particular emphasis in biology, Biology Education majors are expertly prepared to go into the classroom by their senior year.  Due to current STEM teacher shortages at the secondary level, our graduates routinely enjoy multiple offers and choice upon graduation.

Olivet is committed to preparing students for the next steps as they pursue a career in biology. Graduates consistently exceed the national average when it comes to acceptance rates into graduate programs and medical school.

In addition to completing a required research project, many biology students are actively involved with job shadowing healthcare professionals and medical mission trips to put their knowledge to work.

Field Experience

Olivet biology majors get an up-close look at how the heart can exist and function completely on its own, unattached to vessels or the nervous system. Other students routinely have access to human cadavers for hands-on learning. For all of them, these advanced lab opportunities bring to life what they read in their textbooks.

As undergraduates, Olivet science majors get to explore mysteries of the human body that are typically reserved for study in graduate school and beyond. Because of professors who want to provide quality learning experiences, Olivet science grads are excelling in grad school and their careers.
