The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Art with a concentration in Drawing/Painting is designed for the student who desires to nurture and grow the artist within while preparing for a professional career– a degree designed for true artists.

Students develop individual creative expression while learning skill and technique, and study the history of art and the work of noted artists, as well as the abstract, representational, experimental and conceptual facets of painting.

Painting students develop new ways and methods to create, working on canvas, fabric, and wood. From oils, chalk, acrylics, watercolors and other mediums with various brushes and tools, airbrushes and even bare hands.

Painting Students

Study watercolor, printmaking, oil painting, composition and color
Create and host an exhibit of their work on campus during the senior year
Review portfolios with art professors
Learn about budgeting and adjusting for reality in working with clients
Minor in marketing or another complimentary area
Work in the studio classes and individually
Learn from professors who are also working artists

Technology Toolbox

Apple MacBook Pro computers and iPad technology bring students into the world of professional art and graphic design. Production computers turn digital imaging into television. The on-site digital photography studio and dark room for traditional film development and modern techniques for manipulating images are for students’ creative pursuits.

Gallery Space on Campus

Students design and deliver their own art shows, professionally lighted and displayed, in the lobby of Strickler Planetarium and the Brandenburg Art Gallery. The Victorian House Art Gallery regularly features exhibits from visiting artists and is open to Olivet students and the community.

Career Prep

During your sophomore year a special career preparation course for art majors teaches how to apply for and find jobs.
