By the time students complete this program, they will know understand scientific theory, employ teaching strategies, communicate well and have the required instructing experience to teach introductory and advanced science courses at the middle and high school levels.

At Olivet, students will learn the best methods, plans and strategies for teaching sciences classes to middle through high school students. Students will complete between 100 to 130 hours of field experiences and once completed, they will spend 60 supervised days teaching in a local classroom setting under the mentorship of an experienced teacher.

ISBE & SEPLB Board Licenses

Olivet’s Teacher Education Program is a recognized education preparation program by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) in consultation with the State Educator Preparation and Licensure Board (SEPLB). Every teaching program that is offered at Olivet has been individually approved for licensure, meaning that when a teaching candidate graduates with a teaching degree, they will also have earned an Illinois Professional Educators License. The Department of Education continues to update existing programs to meet and exceed the Illinois State Board of Education standards and is aligned with the top educational preparation standards in the nation.
