Olivet Nazarene University is proud to announce Teresa Mathews as the Student Employee Supervisor of the Year. Teresa works in the Office of Admissions at Olivet as the Director of Guest Services.
Teresa was nominated by one of her student ambassadors, Aimee Nana. In her nomination letter, Aimee said, “[Teresa] is an effective communicator, offering kind but intentional instruction to multiple listening ears. She has deep compassion and empathy for the stories of the students who walk through our doors and for every individual employed under her. Whether it is a coffee invitation during a hard time or consistent prayer throughout the week, she has a huge heart for her students.”
“She frequently reminds us of the eternal impact our job has on the students we interact with, never forgetting the reason behind the work we do. She understands that people learn differently and offers multiple different types of communication to ensure everyone is in the know. She gives us great feedback, never expecting something that wasn’t first communicated. She teaches professionalism by first modeling it herself.”
“Teresa has a list of responsibilities and nowhere on that list does it say “be a spiritual mentor for over 30 employees” yet she does it gracefully. Every single student in Admissions is known and loved by Teresa,” Aimee said. “I am a better person because I worked for Teresa Mathews.”
