BOURBONNAIS, IL – Olivet Nazarene University Director of Athletics Mike Conway announced Monday the hiring of Mark Tun as the head men’s soccer coach, effective immediately.

Tun spent the entirety of the 2022-23 season as the first assistant for the ONU men’s soccer team, helping guide them to their second-consecutive Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) regular-season title and conference tournament crown. He also served as the head recruiting coordinator for the Tigers last season.

“I am humbled and thrilled to have the opportunity to lead the Olivet Nazarene University men’s soccer program,” said Tun. “I am excited to contribute and build on the proud history of success that this program has established and to lead this group of young men on and off the field.”

With the help of Tun, last year’s ONU team posted a 16-2-3 overall record to match the school record for wins in a season. The club climbed to as high as No. 15 in the NAIA top-25 coaches’ poll and qualified for the NAIA National Tournament for the ninth time in program history.

“As we went through an extensive search over the last few months, we kept coming back to the outstanding work that Mark has done over the last year in recruiting and leading the team this spring,” said Conway. “It became clear that he earned the respect of the team and I am excited and proud to announce Mark Tun will be leading our highly successful men’s soccer program into the future.”

Prior to ONU, Tun was the interim head men’s soccer coach at Benedictine University in Lisle, Ill. He also served as the first assistant and head recruiting coordinator for the Eagles from 2018-2021.

A 2018 graduate of the aforementioned Benedictine University, Tun’s successful four-year playing career saw the Eagles compile their two highest win totals in program history and an NCAA Tournament Round of Sixteen appearance in 2016.

Tun’s soccer background also includes youth club playing experiences with Sockers FC Chicago. In 2012, he was instrumental in Saint Viator High School’s third place finish in the Illinois High School Association state tournament.
