Olivet Nazarene University has recently been selected by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to receive $450,000 in grant aid to improve security across different campus facilities. This specific grant is a part of FEMA’s Nonprofit Security Grant program which has been made annually available to 501(c)(3) organizations across the country since 2004.
“The awarded funds will result in valuable enhancements to the University’s physical security, and by doing so, enable us to provide a greater level of service to our students, employees, and guests,” says Kyle Olney, Executive Director of Campus Safety Management.
Olivet’s Office of Emergency Management began the application process during the Spring 2023 semester, applying for grants specifically for Benner Library, Centennial Chapel, and Larsen Fine Arts Center – each for the maximum amount of $150,000. The university was awarded the funds in fall 2023 and will complete projects in summer 2024. Projects will include the enhancement of access security, exterior lighting and building surveillance in these three facilities.
