On Saturday, September 7, the Tiger Champions Club welcomed over 50 members from the 1990 and 1991 football teams. These two teams, coached by Dennis Roland and John Vandermeer, hold a notable place in Tiger Football history, boasting seven All-American titles, the NAIA all-time rushing yards record (4,348 yards), and numerous individual awards and recognitions.
The celebrations began in the evening with a dinner to honor the players, providing an opportunity for food, fun, and reconnection after 30 years. During the event, guests heard from Director of Athletic Advancement Mike Conway ’84, former Dean of Students and raving football team fan Grover Brooks ’69, former head coach John Vandermeer, and former strength coach Donnie Revell ’88. It was a memorable time as attendees reminisced about the impact Olivet had on the players’ lives.
“Being in the room with these alumni teams, I was reminded of how special Olivet is and of the transformation that takes place here on campus every single day,” said Senior Director of Alumni Relations Erika Moeschke. “Hearing the testimonies of the players and coaches made me proud to serve at an institution that continues to honor God and produce men and women who serve Him boldly even after graduation.”
This event was the first of many opportunities through the Tiger Champions Club that allows athletic alumni to reconnect with Olivet in the ways that they were passionate about while continuing to make a lasting impact for future student athletes.
