For Chase Moore ’09 B.A.Sc./’11 MBA, career preparation began on the football field. He came to Olivet Nazarene University on a football scholarship and played receiver for coach Gary Newsome ’74 B.S. during all four years of his undergraduate education.

“That was one of the great times of in my life,” Chase says. “When I found out there was a way to continue my education while continuing with college football, I decided to continue at ONU.”

In 2009 Chase became a graduate assistant for ONU. He served as an assistant coach for the Tiger football team while working toward his Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree.

“I learned a lot in both disciplines,” he says. “As part of the coaching staff, I helped with recruiting, budgeting, travel, coaching. I learned how to transition from being an athlete to being a coach, as I was coaching some of my former teammates.”

As a graduate student, Chase was relating his education to real life. The youngest person in his cohort, he also had the opportunity to learn from people who were in the workforce and to learn more about different career paths. He appreciated the practical, hands-on learning experiences as well as the variety of important topics covered, including finance, accounting and international marketing.

“In my MBA program, I knew I was at a different level of learning,” he says. “We went beyond the textbook and learned from real-life knowledge and experience.”

When he graduated with his MBA, Chase was part of the class of 2011, the first class to hold a graduation in ONU’s new Centennial Chapel.

“At ONU, I focused on my education, not on partying or distractions,” he says. “I learned how to prioritize what is important in life and business and how to present myself professionally.”

Today, Chase is a senior home lending advisor with the private client team for JPMorgan Chase Bank. He works in the Chase Tower in downtown Chicago as part of the One Chase private client group. Chicago Agent Magazine Cover

“I love my job because I get to help people achieve home ownership, one of the biggest purchases and goals in their lives,” he says. “I help them deal with the anxiety and emotions that come about during the process. My biggest reward is being at the closing table with my clients. And I find that I often build lasting relationships with my clients.”

In business, online and at home, Chase continues to enjoy his encounters, personally and professionally, with ONU graduates. He consistently finds that ONU alumni have a common bond of integrity and quality education, and that God is part of his connection with them.

“Getting my MBA was the best decision I’ve ever made,” Chase says. “I learned problem-solving and time management skills that continue to serve me well. My approach to business and life is grounded in my ONU education.”
