Writing Major or Minor
The writing major at Olivet has two distinct tracks: professional writing or creative writing. This major is intended to be a double major and therefore has only 33 required hours of credit. It pairs well with majors in the humanities as well as business and communication.

Curriculum Structure
The major is structured to include the following:
- Core set of classes introduces students to the theoretical foundation and craft of writing.
- Bank of courses in creative and professional writing allow students to choose courses that best apply to their future career and writing interests.
- Capstone experience which allows students to study abroad, complete an internship, or pursue a scholarship project in their field.
- Final seminar writing course to conclude the program. Students complete portfolio work that will help them to pursue a career in writing, apply for graduate school or hone their skills within their primary field.
