Mark Bishop

Associate Professor & Resident Director, University Place

Communication, Residential Life

Professor Bishop has been teaching at the college level since 2001. All but one of those years has been at Olivet. His areas of expertise include media communications, television/video production, and broadcast journalism.

During his career, he worked professionally at six television stations: Chicago’s Christian station, formerly WCFC, now The Total Living Network (production crew); CBS affiliate, Rockford, Illinois (producer, reporter, weather anchor); ABC affiliate, Lincoln, Nebraska (reporter, weather anchor); FOX affiliate, Omaha, Nebraska (meteorologist); ABC network, Chicago (meteorologist), as well as featured on ABC’s “World News Tonight” with David Muir in a story about severe weather; and FOX affiliate, Nashville, Tennessee (meteorologist).

At Olivet, he manages the television news magazine known as “Access ONU.” Students produce, report, and anchor this one-of-a-kind show that “airs” on Facebook (search Access ONU). Besides featuring campus headlines, student reporters highlight the unique stories of our students, faculty, and staff.

He is passionate about helping students in the TV/video and film concentrations use their talents in professional broadcasting. He has helped many land impressive internships. Students have completed internships with Emmy award-winning Towers Productions of Chicago, the Chicago Bears media department, ABC 7 Chicago, Comcast Sports Network, CMT (Country Music Television) in Nashville, and O’Connor Casting Agency in Chicago among others.

While working in television Professor Bishop was a member of the American Meteorological Society (AMS) and earned the AMS seal of approval for his television weather forecasting. He also won an Associated Press award for reporting while at the ABC affiliate in Lincoln, Nebraska. In 2006, he received Olivet’s “Second Mile Award” as the professor most highly recommended by students.

He and his wife, Leanne, are the parents of two daughters. Their oldest daughter Marisa is a Language Arts school teacher. Their second daughter Katie has a unique interest in horses. In fact, she competes on her horse “Koda” in several jumping competitions throughout the year.
