Marvin Jones

Professor

Dr. Jones joined Olivet’s full-time faculty in 2017. He teaches courses in church music, worship and worship leadership. He is also the director of Proclamation Gospel Choir.

Before coming to Olivet he taught music and directed choirs at Trevecca Nazarene University (TNU). Under his direction, the TNU Gospel Choir performed with Carrie Underwood at the CMA awards ceremony and with Sara Evans, Jennifer Nettles and LeAnn Rimes for CMA’s “Country Christmas.”

Outside the classroom, he has enjoyed serving as a worship pastor for more than 30 years, most recently at Trevecca Community Church in Tennessee. He is the director of Marvin Jones Worship Ministries and was the worship leader at three of the Church of the Nazarene’s General Assembly international gatherings. He was the associate producer of Jerry Reed’s “The Wounded Warrior Song” for the Wounded Warrior Project.

Dr. Jones is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS). In 1989, he was named to “Who’s Who in Church Leadership.”

Music is a large part of his life, and he is an avid user of all electronics. In his leisure time, he relaxes on the golf course.

He and his wife, Paula, are the parents of two children: Sheldon, who is married to Wendi; and Catrice (Nikki), who is married to Joey Wenger. They are the grandparents of three grandsons and three granddaughters. Their family times together light up Dr. Jones’s life.

One of his favorite Bible verses is Philippians 1:6; “being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
