Matt Gerhard currently serves as Director of Music at Kokomo Zion Church, and Assistant Choir Director at Northwestern MS/HS. Matt earned a Bachelor’s in Church Music from Olivet Nazarene University (2008) and a Master’s in Choral Conducting (studying with Dr. Gary Bonner) from California Baptist University (2010).
Matt has studied classical and church organ with Rev. William H. Brown, Dr. Timothy Nelson, and Dr. Beverly Howard. He has had coaching in theatre organ and silent film accompaniment from Mark Herman, Bob Salisbury, and Justin Stahl. His piano studies have been with Amy Shumway and Dr. Gerald Anderson.
As a recitalist, Matt performs regularly for the Central Indiana Chapter of the American Theatre Organ Society, the Roosevelt Summer Organ Series in Michigan City, IN, the Christ Lutheran Fine Arts Series in Kokomo, IN, Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, IL, the Joliet Theatre Organ Enthusiasts (JATOE) in Joliet, IL, and Timbercrest Senior Living Center in North Manchester, IN. Matt also performs pre-show theatre organ music at the Warren Performing Arts Center and the Hedback Theatre in Indianapolis, and the Long Center in Lafayette. This December Matt will be the official organist for the 90th annual Purdue Christmas Show performing 30-45 minutes of Christmas music before each of the four presentations.
Matt serves as President of the Central Indiana Chapter of the American Theatre Organ Society, Indianapolis Pipe Organ Festival Coordinator for the Indianapolis Chapter of the American Guild of Organists, Secretary of the Kokomo Symphonic Board, and is a member of the Indiana Chapter of the American Choral Directors Association and board member of the Long Center Theatre Organ Society.
