Julie Schmalzbauer

Adjunct Professor


Julie Schmalzbauer is an accomplished oboist and teacher. She received her training from Rhadames Angelucci (of the Minnesota Orchestra), Carl Sonik (of the St. Louis Symphony), John De Lancie (of the Philadelphia Orchestra), and Ray Still (of the Chicago Symphony). Additionally, Dr. Schmalzbauer attended the Aspen Music Festival for three seasons. She holds the degree of Doctor of Musical Arts in Oboe Performance from Northwestern University.

An active performer in the greater Chicago area, Dr. Schmalzbauer has been a member of the Elmhurst Symphony and the Park Ridge Symphony, and currently the Principal Oboist of the Kankakee Valley Symphony Orchestra. She has been the adjunct professor of oboe at ONU since 1999. Dr. Schmalzbauer also maintains private teaching studios in Chicago and Bourbonnais.

Dr. Schmalzbauer holds a B.A. from Wheaton College, an M.M. from Northwestern University, a Certificate of Performance from Northwestern University, and, in 2009, completed the D.M.A. at Northwestern University.
