BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – Playing in their fourth doubleheader in six days, the Olivet Nazarene University softball team notched double-digit hits in both games to complete the sweep over Judson Monday afternoon at Tiger Field. The Tigers pounded out 25 hits on the day, sending out 11 in the 9-1 win in the opener before registering 14 in the 8-4 nightcap win over the Eagles.

The Purple & Yellow gold plated runs in every frame to end game one early. Margaret Landis got ONU on the board first with an RBI double, who was then promptly scored on a Mallory O’Connor base hit. Zoe Oshiro then brought home Kahiwa Ili on an RBI groundout to make it a 3-0 ball game.

ONU then jumped the Eagles (6-28, 3-9 CCAC) for a four-spot third inning before tacking on two more in the fourth to take a nine-run advantage. Judson scratched in their first run in the fifth, but it was not enough to stop the mercy rule as the Tigers won 9-1 in the fifth inning.

Landis and O’Connor were both perfect at the plate going 3-for-3 in the opener. The latter also registered three RBIs in the big win. Allie Timm went the distance as the starter, picking up five strikeouts against zero walks en route to her fifth win of the campaign.

The hot offense rolled over into the second game of the doubleheader, plating eight runs by the fourth inning to take a commanding 8-0 lead. Judson battled back with a run in the fifth and three more in the sixth, but a fantastic diving grab from Meegan Randall in center field quelled any potential comeback.

Landis was flawless at the plate once again, going 3-for-3 in the nightcap to go a perfect 6-for-6 on the day. O’Connor plated another three RBIs to lead the offense. Gwen Bender also had a multi-RBI day with her two runs batted in. Olivia Flinn picked up her fourth win of the season as the ONU starter.

The Tigers, now winners of three of their last four outings, will host Calumet Saturday for a doubleheader at Tiger Field. The first pitch is slated for noon.
