“Aspiring” Class of 2021 and all new students
This required three-day conference on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday introduced new students to college life — and life at Olivet. Small group events, challenging messages, door prizes, food and many opportunities to get acquainted make this a valuable start to a life-changing adventure.
First day of classes
Students and professors met one another — many for the first time — and launched the academic aspect of an Olivet education on Wednesday.
First chapel
What better way to start the new year than gathering the entire student body, faculty and staff in the Crawford Auditorium of the Hawkins Centennial Chapel for worship and prayer! Ollies Follies
Theme: Once upon a Time
Tradition continues on the campus fields and lawns with Ollies Follies competitions. Freshman, Sophomore, Junior and Senior class teams are vying for points and bragging rights. In the process, they discover more about the importance of teamwork.
On Wednesday, the Ollies Follies Athletic Games happened at the West Campus playing fields. Wearing T-shirts to identify their affiliations, team members competed in soccer, softball, Ultimate Frisbee, dodgeball, kickball, men’s flag football and sand volleyball.
Competition continues on Sunday with Wacky Games on the lawn south of the Weber Center. The stakes for fun and adventure are higher under the lights. These out-of-the-box relay games bring out the silly in the hundreds of students who participate. The all-time favorite, the inner tube game, features soapy, slippery inner tubes of varying sizes. Individuals have to get the inner tubes into their class corners, regardless of how much mud they create along the way.
Classes also began rehearsals for the Ollies Follies Variety Show, another part of the competition that takes place on Sunday, Sept. 10.
Block Party
Another Olivet tradition, Block Party brings students, staff and faculty together for an evening of food and fun on Friday evening. A carnival-like setting in the Perry Student Life and Recreation Center fieldhouse includes a juggler on stilts, inflatables for young adults and many photo opp locations.
