When families look for colleges with the lowest student debt, Olivet Nazarene University stands out. Through the innovative Debt Free in Five program, students are on a clear path to eliminate their college debt within five years of graduation, making Olivet one of the top colleges with the lowest average debt at graduation.
Empowering Graduates for Financial Freedom
In its first year, the Debt Free in Five program achieved remarkable results. Over 270 seniors attended a non-credit debt literacy workshop, pledging $1.1 million to pay off their loans in the first year after graduation. “The Debt Free in Five initiative at Olivet Nazarene University is transforming the financial well-being of its students,” said Susan Wolff, Executive Director of University Relations and lead for the affordability task force.
Building on the success of the program, the workshop has become a required part of the curriculum for all graduating seniors in 2024. This expansion has ensured every student has access to critical financial skills. “By offering workshops, resources, and support, the university is equipping graduates to become debt-free within five years of graduation,” Wolff added.
Supporting Families and Prospective Students
Olivet is also focused on helping prospective students and families understand the value of a debt-free education. Resources detailing the Debt Free in Five program are now part of the recruitment process. “Through this initiative, Olivet Nazarene University is empowering its students to embark on their professional journeys without the burden of college debt, ensuring a brighter future for all,” Wolff emphasized.
The success of the Debt Free in Five program is part of a broader strategy to maintain Olivet’s reputation for affordability and strong student outcomes.
