On Tuesday, December 3rd, Olivet will host its fifth annual Giving Tuesday. This 24-hour philanthropic event is a part of a global generosity movement that began in 2012, inspiring collective charitable action during the holiday season. This year, Olivet honors those who make a difference in lives of those in our campus community.

“In the time I’ve worked here, it has become clear to me how impactful our faculty and staff are in the student experience,” says Director of The Olivet Fund, Austin Brown ’19/’21 MAR. “When talking to prospective students we emphasize that professors, coaches and RDs will learn your name and take a genuine interest in you; but this only scratches the surface when it comes to the lasting impact faculty and staff have on our alumni. That’s why we’re celebrating them this Giving Tuesday.”

Throughout the event, participants are encouraged to give a gift in honor or in memory of the person that made a difference in their life at Olivet. Along with their gift, participants will also have the opportunity to send a note to that person expressing their gratitude for the impact they made.

“Giving Tuesday gives us a special way to celebrate the joy of generosity during the holiday season,” says Associate Director of Alumni Relations, Hannah Priest. “While we reminisce on the people that made a difference along the way in our own Olivet stories, we are able to directly impact the lives of current and future Olivet students through our gifts.”

Beyond directly giving, those in the greater Olivet community can participate through helping spread the word by sharing posts on social media or texting friends what Olivet means to them.
