BOURBONNAIS, IL. – Olivet Nazarene University Interim Director of Athletics Justin Glenn announced Tuesday the hiring of Dillon Dahl as the interim head men’s volleyball coach, effective immediately.
Dahl joins the ONU staff after serving as an assistant coach for the men’s volleyball team at Black Hills State University, an NCAA Division II program located in Spearfish, S.D. He also worked as a recruiting coordinator for the Yellow Jackets.
“I am very excited to get started at Olivet,” said Dahl. “This is a great opportunity to coach at an institution that models a Christ-centered culture along with maintaining and growing this men’s volleyball program. I am excited to see what we can accomplish this season.”
Dahl takes over an ONU squad coming off an impressive 2023 season, where the team finished second in the highly-competitive Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) standings with an 11-2 league record. Last year’s squad produced four All-CCAC selections and finished 18-8 overall.
“We are thrilled to welcome Coach Dahl to ONU as he takes over leadership of the men’s volleyball program for the spring,” said Glenn. “His coaching experience will prove to be valuable for the team, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact he will have both on and off the court.”
Prior to BHSU, Dahl spent three seasons (2021-23) as an assistant men’s and women’s volleyball coach at NAIA powerhouse Dordt University where he was named the 2023 AVCA NAIA National Assistant Coach of the Year. During his time with the Defenders, the women’s team went a combined 32-22 and the men boasted a 31-24 record.
Dahl’s coaching career began at Dell Rapids High School in South Dakota, where he spent two seasons as an assistant coach. At this time, he also served as the head boy’s track coach at Dell Rapids for four years while also coaching one year with Club Central’s 16u volleyball team.
As a collegiate athlete, Dahl competed in the decathlon and javelin at Northern State and placed in each event twice at the 2014 and 2015 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Championships. Additionally, he was a four time academic all-NSIC honoree. Dahl graduated from Northern State University in 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in biology education.
The Tigers will begin their 2024 season at the Georgetown Tournament with a match against Talladega on Thursday, Jan. 25 at 3 p.m. CST.
