CLINTON, Iowa – A big day from Jack Dupuis helped lift the Olivet Nazarene University baseball team to a doubleheader sweep of St. Ambrose Thursday evening at NelsonCorp Field.

The senior from Wheaton, Ill., went 5-for-7 at the dish and scored five runs across the two contests to lead ONU to a 9-0 win in the opener and a 14-3 win in the nightcap.

He was also a part of a big third inning that gave ONU all the runs they would need in the series’ first game. After a pitch hit Takumi Kimoto to kick off the rally, Dupuis pushed him over with a single through the right side. Andy Onnen drew a walk to load the bases before Aden Aukland came through with a two-RBI single. Onnen capped the inning when he stole home to make it 3-0 ONU early.

The Tigers tacked on two other three spots to put the game out of reach. Dupuis and Aukland tabbed RBIs in the fourth and Evan Pogioli notched one in the seventh inning to put ONU up nine scores.

But one run was all they would need as the ONU pitching staff shut down the Fighting Bees, allowing just six hits and leaving them off the scoreboard. Jacob Aseltine was credited with the win as the starter, tossing four scoreless innings on four hits and a strikeout. Luke Shoven and Michael Freitas preserved the shutout with 1.1 and 1.2 innings pitched in relief, respectively.

Dupuis touched home plate three times to lead ONU in the nightcap, scoring the first run of the game on an Aukland RBI in the opening frame. St. Ambrose (5-11, 2-4 CCAC) responded with three unanswered to take their first lead of the day, but the Tigers would close out the game with 13 consecutive runs to end the game early in eight innings.

Four Tigers recorded multiple RBIs in the second win, led by Alex Seaton with three. Dupuis, Kimoto, and Onnen all tallied a pair. Tyler Snoreck picked up his first win of the year in relief, striking out seven and surrendering just one hit in the final 4.2 innings.

The Tigers, winners of three in a row, will wrap up their four-game series against the Bees tomorrow afternoon at Watson Field.
