Fall 2020 Athletics Update

Changes to the fall sports schedules per CCAC and NAIA.

July 31, 2020 Athletics

The Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) and its members of the Council of Presidents announced on Wednesday, July 29 that men’s and women’s soccer, and women’s volleyball league play will move to the spring of 2021.

Additionally, the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced on Friday morning that the 2020 Football National Championship will be postponed until the spring of 2021. In regards to the change made by the NAIA, the Mid-States Football Association (MSFA), who Olivet Nazarene University is a member of, will follow in stride and play its league season in the Spring as well. The league also announced that individual schools will be permitted to play a small number of non-conference games in the fall if permitted by their respective administrations.

The CCAC Council of Presidents of the member schools in the conference agreed to keep the men’s and women’s cross country CCAC Championship date of November 7 intact. ONU is scheduled to host this event at the Aspen Ridge Golf Course in Bourbonnais.
The CCAC Council of Presidents council also agreed that any conference member to forgo competing in the league in any sport this year will not be penalized. In addition, the league’s Council of Presidents council also decided that non-conference competition in both the fall and the spring seasons will be up to each member school, in accordance with the NAIA guidelines.

This is in light of a decision that was made on Tuesday, July 28, when the NAIA postponed the men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s soccer, and women’s volleyball fall national championships until the spring of 2021. This decision that was made by the NAIA does not rule out conferences to compete in the fall or winter, if they so choose to. Prior to this decision made by the NAIA, 51 institutions have already opted to postpone fall competition until the spring of 2021.

The exact dates for league matchups as well as tournament championships will be determined by the conference scheduling committee once the NAIA announces its national championship dates for each of the sports that have been affected.
