Joel and Luke Smallbone of the platinum-selling band For King and Countrybrought an extraordinary energy and call to worship to chapel at Olivet Nazarene University on February 22, 2024.
The Australian brothers shared that their story is not just about music; it’s a journey of faith, resilience, and the transformative power of trusting in Christ. Reflecting on their first radio interview at Olivet’s own Shine.FM, which marked the onset of their remarkable journey in music, Joel Smallbone remarked, “It’s incredible to think how our journey began right here, and to see where God has led us since then is nothing short of miraculous.”
The conversation then shifted to their much-anticipated movie, “Unsung Hero,” which is an intimate portrayal of their family’s life story. Scheduled for release on April 26, the film explores the family’s challenging move from Australia to Nashville, a narrative deeply ingrained with trials, faith, and the unyielding bond of family. Luke Smallbone shared, “This film is more than our story. It’s a tribute to our parents, their sacrifices, and the unshakeable faith that guided us through our toughest times.
An intriguing detail about the movie is its release date, coinciding with their parents’ 49th wedding anniversary. Joel Smallbone remarked on this coincidence, “We couldn’t have planned the timing better if we tried. It feels like a little nod from above, a reminder that there’s a bigger plan at work here.”
The soundtrack of “Unsung Hero” is also a topic of excitement, featuring original songs and collaborations, including a reimagined version of Michael W. Smith’s “My Place in This World.”
Discussing the soundtrack, Luke Smallbone said, “Music has always been our way of connecting with people, of sharing our hearts. This soundtrack, especially the remake of ‘My Place in This World,’ feels very timely. It’s about finding your purpose, something we all strive for.”
