From its inception, College Church has had a special relationship with Olivet Nazarene University. Since its first service in the basement of Burke Administration Building in the 1940’s, College Church has been a vital part of Olivet’s community and ethos. While it has long been a cornerstone for Olivet students on Sundays, College Church now plays a more frequent, daily role in their everyday lives. In addition to providing connection groups in homes, trips to Chicago, and countless ministry opportunities, College Church now hosts free coffee every weekday in its café.
Fully staffed by volunteers — who also provide daily homemade pastries and cookies — the café offers students and church members a welcoming place to study, socialize, and enjoy a cup of coffee at no cost.
The College Church sanctuary is also available on weekdays for students seeking to spend time in prayer or reflection.
“We want College Church to available for ONU students, not just on Sundays, but throughout the week,” says Senior Pastor Dr. Mark Quanstrom.
“Every Homecoming Sunday, we see Olivet alumni returning to College Church because for so many, it represents a pivotal moment in their lives,” Quanstrom says. “And it continues to be a meaningful place for ONU students. Relationships are formed and nurtured here. Spiritual formation takes place here. Important life decisions are made here. And now for many, College Church has become a part of their daily routine. When students graduate from Olivet, we want them to have experienced being loved by the Church.”
The College Church café is open to all 8am-3pm Monday-Friday, and the sanctuary is available 7:30am-4:00pm Monday-Friday. For more information about the student ministries at College Church of the Nazarene, go to collegechurch.org.
