Beginning in fall 2017, Olivet Nazarene University will offer free laundry service for all residential students. With the support and input from the Associated Student Council, the University decided to provide this benefit as an excellent cost savings and convenience booster for students in each of the resident living areas. All residence halls and apartment housing already have laundry equipment installed and available for use.
In the past, students paid for laundry by swiping their Tiger Dollars cards. The cost was deducted from their prepaid funds loaded on their student ID cards. The machines did not accept cash payment. “The software and hardware used to accept Tiger Dollars was scheduled for replacement,” says Dr. Woody Webb, vice president for student development. “This gave us the perfect opportunity to institute the free laundry benefit for students.”
The laundry equipment will remain the same, but the card readers to accept Tiger Dollars are being removed. As this conversion is made, summer residents will be able to take advantage of the free laundry service.
“Students will be saving money and taking more responsibility in caring for their clothing,” says Thomas Dinkleman, a senior art major from Hillsdale, Michigan. “Having this convenience will reduce the work and expense for parents, too.”
