In the spring 2021 issue of Olivet The Magazine, “The Bowling Era,” the editorial team asked the Olivet community to share in the celebration of Dr. John C. Bowling ’71/’72 M.A. as he concludes his 30th year as president of the University.
The many accomplishments of Dr. Bowling, and his wife, Jill (Cheeseman) ’70/’89 MBA, are covered in the issue. In honor of the Bowlings’ leadership, generosity and legacy, more than 120 students, faculty, staff, alumni and community friends submitted tributes of gratitude and well wishes.
Russ Bredholt ’71, president of Bredholt & Co. and classmate of Dr. Bowling, shared his perspective on the stability that 30 years of leadership has provided to the institution. Two Olivet alumni, parents, and faculty members, Susan (Hendley) Wolff ’94/’06 MBA and Dr. Amber (Bailey) Residori ’93/’17 Ed.D., sat down with John and Jill Bowling for an interview full of reflection on their career-long commitment to serving the University. In the first person feature, Dr. Lynda (Bradford) Allen ’82, professor in the McGraw School of Business, recalled how Jill Bowling personally impacted her career and made a tangible mark on the campus.
Dr. Bowling also contributed two articles, including his “Case for Olivet,” as well as a meaningful prayer of benediction.
“When potential students and their families visit Olivet, we want them to sense the difference – the Olivet difference,” said Dr. Bowling. “Whether they come to study economics, engineering or education, we want our students to know that we are committed to helping them do more than learn how to make a living; we want to prepare them for life.”
The 65-page issue highlights news stories covering the academic and athletic accomplishments of students, faculty and alumni, and includes a photo story of snapshots from the Evening with Friends gala that took place on March 27.
