Later this summer, Olivet Nazarene University will see the completion of major renovations to Ludwig Center, the hub of student dining and several student resources. While this phase started at the conclusion of the spring semester, these renovations will complete a multi-year project that began in 2018.
Phase one started in November of 2018 with the addition of Starbucks to Ludwig Center. Last summer, phase two was completed with full renovations to the bookstore, the post office, and the lower level. Phase three is expected to be completed by late July or early August 2020. Highlights of phase three will include enhanced equipment for existing food service options, adding a dedicated allergen station; introducing a robust reusable container carryout program; and adding fresh-brewed Seattle’s Best coffee. The main focus of phase three will be to maximize improvements to the student and guest experience.
Olivet and Sodexo have collaborated together to provide foodservice for the campus community for more than 50 years. Executive vice president and chief financial officer, Dr. David Pickering said of the partnership, “Food service is an important part of the campus experience and we want students to have options that fit their busy schedule while helping create a sense of community.”
Although the timeline for phase three has experienced a bit of disruption due to coronavirus complications as many manufacturers are closed or operating at reduced capacity, Sam Cross, general manager of university dining services, is confident that the finished project will be a success.
“When I arrived at Olivet I saw an opportunity,” he said. “It has been a joy bringing this vision to life. It couldn’t be done without the support and partnership from our Olivet community.”
