The VEX Robotics Competition, presented by the Robotics Education & Competition Foundation (REC), is the largest and fastest growing middle school and high school robotics program globally with more than 20,000 teams from 50 countries playing in over 1,700 competitions worldwide. Each year, an exciting engineering challenge is presented in the form of a game. Students, with guidance from their teachers and mentors, build innovative robots and compete year-round.
The 2024 Illinois High School State Championship will be held at Olivet Nazarene University, hosting more than 150 teens and their mentors. The event will feature those teams which have already pre-qualified at the regional level, and name those who will move on to the VEX World Competition later this year.
Robotics teams from 17 different Illinois High Schools are expected to compete in the fast-paced and exciting event, taking place in Olivet’s Chalfant Hall, located on the ONU Bourbonnais campus. Opening ceremonies begin Friday, Mar. 22 at 6PM, with Qualification Matches taking place beginning at 6:45PM. Competition continues Saturday, culminating with the Awards Ceremony at 5:30PM.
REC sparks interest in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) by engaging students in hands-on, sustainable, and affordable curriculum-based robotics programs. The VEX family of robotics programs for elementary school through college students includes 1.1 million students in 70 countries. These engaging programs offer a direct response to workforce and industry needs with participants more likely to consider STEM beyond high school.
The Olivet Nazarene University Martin D. Walker School of STEM was established in 2015, and prepares men and women for careers in Engineering, Biological Sciences, Mathematics, Geology and Computer Sciences. Nationally recognized as a Best Christian College for STEM studies, the Walker School stands committed to sending qualified graduates into the workforce across the globe.
