Each spring, Olivet Nazarene University hosts Scholar Week to celebrate the academic accomplishments that students and faculty members have achieved through research endeavors. This annual tradition, which began as a single day of presentations, has greatly expanded over the past 13 years.
Scholar Week 2025 will take place April 7-11. Over five days, 33 dynamic presentations will cover a vibrant range of topics including the effects of small-scale burning on prairie ecosystems; travel reflections from a study abroad trip to “Captain Cook’s England”; steel pan drum improvisation; culturally responsive teaching methods; digital media use on Christian campuses; and the impact of stress on creative dreaming.
“Scholar Week is a public showcase of hard work that often happens individually or in small research teams,” says Jasmine Cieszynski, Instructional Services Librarian. “Sharing the ideas, status, and results of an inquiry project with the public and campus community brings visibility to the process which may inspire others to begin. Scholar Week is also a chance to celebrate the hard work and prolonged effort that goes into a creative or investigative project.”
In addition to giving a platform to showcase student scholarship, Scholar Week provides an opportunity for faculty members to present individual and collaborative projects which highlight their ongoing work in their particular subject matter expertise.
This year, nearly 60 presenters will showcase their studies through individual and group presentations covering research updates and discoveries. All presentations are free to attend and everyone is welcome to come listen and engage with the presenters. Most of the presentations will take place in Benner Library in the Fishbowl.
“Coming together with parents, mentors, faculty colleagues, friends, supervisors and people who are simply interested in the topic offers delightful opportunities for question and answer, reflection, and making connections,” Jasmine says. “Each year, when I see the passion which presenters bring to a topic, I get interested in it, too!”
