MAJ Artis-Farmer joined the Army Reserve in 1990. Following graduation, she headed for Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training on June 3rd, 1991. She served in the United States Army Reserve to Staff Sergeant, then crossed into the Officer world by Direct Commission in 2003 training for the Chemical Corp. She transitioned from the Reserve to Active Guard Reserve in 2007. MAJ Artis-Farmer has served for thirty years with eleven more to go. She loves to help her Country and the Soldiers.

Shawn is a native of Little Rock, Arkansas, and loves giving back to her communities. She is active in her church and resides in Mokena, Illinois. Her spouse Albert teaches Navy Junior ROTC at East Aurora High School. They have four incredible children: Destiny (15), Faith (12), Akira (11), and Amari (11).
